South Moline Township Assessor

APPEAL PROCESS

If you think your assessment is incorrect you can request a review of the property value through South Moline Township Assessor’s office, Rock Island County Board of Review (BOR) and Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board (PTAB).

SOUTH MOLINE TOWNSHIP ASSESSOR’S OFFICE

South Moline Township taxpayers can request the township assessor to review their property’s value. The taxpayer should provide evidence for the assessor’s office to examine.

Possible examples of evidence:

  • Sales of similar homes in your neighborhood
  • Recent purchase contracts
  • Closing statement of the purchase of your property
  • Recent appraisal of your property
  • Photos of the property

January 1st to approximately June 1st: Assessor’s office will take requests to review a property assessment

Mid June: All taxpayers will be notified by mail of the assessor’s office decision regarding their request. If the taxpayer does not agree with the assessor’s decision, they have the option to file a complaint with the BOR.

ROCK ISLAND COUNTY BOARD OF REVIEW (BOR)

The formal complaint session for the Board of Review opens on the date of publication. The date of publication is determined by the office of the Chief County Assessor and occurs when assessment changes are published in the local newspaper. When publication occurs, usually in mid September, the property owner has 30 days to file a complaint. Complaint forms are available on the day of publication. See the Board of Review website for more details involving this process.

ILLINOIS PROPERTY TAX APPEAL BOARD (PTAB)

PTAB will only review appeals from taxpayers and taxing bodies on property assessment decisions by the county Board of Review.
